What is a Credit Union? A credit union is a
financial cooperative composed solely of member-owners who share
the philosophy of "not for profit, but for service."
Unlike some financial institutions, our volunteer Board of
Directors are member-owners, who work in the best interest of
other fellow member-owners. Without shareholders to
pay, profits are returned to members in the form of lower loan
rates, low or no-fee products and services, and higher savings
rates. At a bank, the only people who benefit from profits
are the investors.
Members
at a credit union are member-owners because their deposit
represents a share of ownership. However, at a bank,
the owners are typically small groups of investors.
Credit union members are united by a common bond of
membership.
Credit
unions are insured by the National Credit Union
Administration (NCUA), a U.S. government agency for deposits
up to $250,000.
What makes Tulsa Metro Federal Credit Union unique and why
should you and your family join TMFCU
? The reasons are endless and here are just a
few....
-
Lower
rates on auto loans than most banks.
-
Higher rates on savings.
-
Personal attention and friendly service. We
will never ask you for your account number and we will
do our very best to address you by name. In these
days of constant change ("big getting bigger"), isn't it
nice to have an intimate, very personal financial
institution?
50 years and counting... Remember we have
your best interest at heart!
-
Membership for life. Tulsa Metro Federal Credit
Union membership has a domino effect without an
expiration date. Once you have become a member,
your relatives and anyone living in your household are
eligible too. Your membership remains intact
regardless of whether you remain at your current
position or seek employment elsewhere.
-
Your vote counts. As a non-profit cooperative,
Tulsa Metro Federal Credit Union offers membership
"shares" to you in the form of savings deposits.
The earnings on your savings are called dividends
(interest). And, based upon the Credit Union
principle of equality, each member has one vote,
regardless of the balance (or number of shares) in your
savings account. An Annual Meeting of the
Membership is held each September. At this meeting
an election is held for the credit union's volunteer
Board of Directors.
-
Simple Process. Tulsa Metro Federal Credit
Union membership is quick and easy. Come by and
fill out a membership card, present two forms of
identification
and make a $25 deposit. It's just that simple!
-
TMFCU -vs- Other, "Larger" Credit Unions.
While credit unions as a whole were founded on the
principle of "people helping people", many credit unions
thrive on acquisitions and mergers, under the auspices
that 'bigger is always better." Well, we at
TMFCU pride ourselves on genuinely treating every
member with the utmost respect and attention to personal
financial detail. We believe that TMFCU's
reputation of spoiling our membership is the best
practice and one which is not easily found in larger,
less personal financial institutions. So while we
opt to stay smaller, we still offer most all of the
products the others have but with a much higher degree
of service, something the competition can only wish to
offer!
